Qld: Teenager tackled in supermarket protest
BRISBANE, April 20 AAP - A teenager was wrestled to the ground by police during a protest
by dairy farmers outside a supermarket on Brisbane's northside.
The 17-year-old had refused to move away from a set of doors at Woolworths at Chermside,
where he was waving a placard.
The demonstrators arrived at the supermarket at 11.20am (AEST), telling the media the
supermarket giant was using its power to push down farmgate milk prices.
Scuffles broke out as the teenager was tackled by three officers and then led to a police car.
A police spokeswoman said no charges were laid and the teenager was released.
The protest, which dispersed peacefully about an hour later, was the second against
Woolworths in the past week.
On April 15, seven environmentalists and residents concerned about tree clearing were
arrested at the proposed site of a Woolworths supermarket in the Sunshine Coast hinterland
town of Maleny.
