Fed: Crean says double penalties for corporate criminals
Opposition Leader SIMON CREAN says penalties should be doubled for corporate crooksas a way to better protect the investments of ordinary Australians.
Mr CREAN says Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD is wrong not to beef up regulations on business.
He's told the Nine Network that in the current climate of uncertainty surrounding corporatecollapses, the case is for more -- not less -- regulation.
Mr CREAN says he'll outline tomorrow ways to improve openness, honesty and securityfor all shareholders.
He says one initiative is to at least double the penalties for breaches of the Corporations Law.
