Fed: Centrelink to text message job seekers
The federal government has put job seekers on notice.
In its latest scheme to get them out of bed and gainfully employed, Centrelink's nowtext messaging mobile phones to remind them to show up at interviews.
And apparently a three month pilot of the SMS nagging in Adelaide, Canberra and Bathursthas been so successful, that Centrelink is now extending the trial to Southport, Queensland.
Federal Family and Community Services Minister AMANDA VANSTONE says 90 per cent ofthe 300 people involved in the initial pilot say they haven't been late or missed an appointmentsince the trial started.
Senator VANSTONE says the results are fantastic news, considering 78 per cent of participantsindicated that they'd been late for an appointment or interview prior to receiving SMStext messages from Centrelink.
The trial is to be evaluated to determine whether it will be introduced nationallyto Centrelink's 500,000 young job seekers.
