FOOD LABELS: WHAT A FAT LOT OF GOOD

SHOPPERS are so baffled by nutritional information they saysetting a video is easier than decoding figures on food labels, a newreport claims.

Supermarket giant Safeway polled 1,000 consumers and found three-quarters did not know what the initials RDA (recommended dailyallowance) stood for.

Some guessed it meant regional development agency while othersthought it might stand for royal dramatic art .

More than 90 per cent of the customers surveyed said they wouldrather change a plug, read a map or set a video than struggle withworking out what the nutritional information on food packets meant.
