NSW: Casino says will follow recomendations
SYDNEY, Aug 31 AAP - The company that owns Sydney's Star City Casino said it would
comply fully with any recommendations from the ongoing inquiry into the casino.
TABCORP chief executive Ross Wilson was responding to the release of Justice Peter
McClellan's preliminary findings that include references to allegations of prostitution,
money laundering, drunkenness and sexual harassment of employees at the casino.
"TABCORP does not condone nor tolerate such activities and will do its utmost to eliminate
any such conduct in Star City now and in the future," Mr Wilson said in a statement.
Justice McClellan recommended that a permanent police force be stationed at the casino
after hearing evidence that many of the casino's biggest gamblers were convicted or suspected
criminals.
A spokesman for Star City said the company would be happy to comply with that request
but it was up to the New South Wales Government to take that further.
"We would welcome it but that's a matter for the government to determine," spokesman
Peter Grimshaw told AAP.
He said the casino would comply fully with all recommendations of the inquiry.
"...the company is reviewing the policies and procedures at Star City and will strengthen
them as necessary to ensure that appropriate controls and preventative measures are in
place and wherever we find evidence of these alleged activities, appropriate action is
taken," TABCORP said.
Star City has also commissioned an internal inquiry, headed by former New South Wales
Court of Appeal Judge Jerrod Cripps, which has heard similar allegations to Justice McClellan.
"Once the final reports by Mr McClellan and Mr Cripps have been completed, TABCORP
will review them thoroughly and take any further action required to ensure that Star City
meets the highest standards," TABCORP said.
