EQUAL Education is hoping that President Jacob Zuma will make education a priority in tonight's State of the Nation address.

In a statement, it said former president Thabo Mbeki had stated in his 2004 address that all mud schools would be replaced within a year.

This had still not been done.

Equal Education cited statistics, released last year by the Basic Education Department, that the majority of schools did not have libraries or laboratories and that nearly 10 percent of schools did not have a water supply.
